Great basis with a little cliché characters

The "The Expanse" vibe is strong with this one. A motley crew of diverse characters with problems. A gritty sci-fi universe with an epic backstory, mixed up with a Stellaris feeling when it comes down to the predecessors and crisis.

4 stars because I binged through it once I got used to the writing and "talking" style. I'm looking forward to the next book and I'm happy that it's just a trilogy. "The Expanse" lost me after 6 books ...

But only 4 stars because it's no Hyperion ...

Enjoyable Cosmic Horror/Action

This is not at all like the Children of Time Series, but good in its own right. Where CoT is all about exploration and the evolution of societies, this is more the Star Wars kind of story mixed with a good dose of Lovecraftian horror.

What a wild ride

This is a fun, weird space opera in a weird, alien-filled universe. This book explores how sentient life can experience the universe in a stange, grim world.

The book borders on goofy or chaotic at times, but it's sure fun. I'm going on to book 2.

Well, that was a wild ride

Very zany universe almost to the point of being silly at times. A fun space opera adventure exploring the differences between forms of sentient life.
